Questions about dental implants

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about dental implants. Remember always to consult with your dentist before deciding to have any dental treatment. For any questions we haven't answered here, please don't hesitate to give us a call.

Q1  Who can have dental implants?

In theory almost everyone can have them done. A successful implant placement will need sufficient bone available. In some cases, we will need to schedule in an additional procedure to increase the amount of bone but if this is the case, we'll explain it all to your beforehand. We assess all patients thoroughly before suggesting any form of treatment.

Q2  When are dental implants a good option?

Implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth or several - completely transforming your smile.

Q3  How long do dental implants last for?

They should last for at least 20 years if you look after and maintain them properly. Good oral hygiene is very important - both for the implants and to keep your own natural teeth healthy.

Q4  How much does it cost?

Prices at 360 Dental Care start from £2,000

Q5  How long does it take to have a dental implant done?

Once the implant has been made by our dental technician, it can take anywhere between 40-45 minutes in surgery time per tooth. So, of course, the total amount of time depends on the number of implants being placed.

Q6  Does it hurt?

No. Aside from using modern anaesthetic techniques, 360 Dental Care also offers full sedation for patients who are anxious about the treatment.

Q7  Can you explain the procedure?

A small cut is made in the gum. We then make a very small hole for the implant using special drills. The gum is then stitched together. Simple.

Q8  What kind of maintenance will a dental implant need?

A visit to your dentist and hygienist every 3-6 months is the best advice - and that goes for people with dental implants and 100% natural teeth.

Q9  Will anyone be able to tell that I have a dental implant?

Not at all. The implant is inserted underneath your natural gums upon which we fix a very natural looking crown. It will be your little secret.

Q10  Can you have teeth whitening done afterwards?

Implants, like any other crown, will not change colour in the same way as your natural teeth do. It might therefore be a good idea to have your teeth whitened first so that the technician can match the colour of your new teeth to the implant.
