Implant Retained Dentures

There are times when a removable restoration is better than a fixed bridge. This is particularly the case if there has been too much loss of bone and/or gum, the client has challenges with their dental cleaning, or needs to opt for a lower cost option.

Dentures are individually designed to suit your smile and your face shape and structure. By applying the best teeth and gum work available, a fantastic natural result can be achieved.

This is a removable denture (Danny insert picture?), which is retained by dental implants. It is very sturdy and will not fall out. Although the number of implants will vary case to case, the upper jaw ideally needs four evenly spaced implants and two or three in the lower jaw. The denture is retained by the implant by a ‘press-stud’ style attachment.

Advantages of a removable denture:
-They are less expensive than fixed implant restorations.
-It’s easy to clean and maintain the implants.
-They reduce / remove the need for bone and gum grafting, as missing gum tissue is replaced by gum coloured acrylic.
-Different levels of retention can be produced in the press stud attachments.

Disadvantages of a removable denture:
-Some people do not like the idea of a ‘less permanent’ restoration.
-The nylon press stud attachment will eventually wear away and will need to be replaced over time. Please note however that the frequency is variable and it’s very easy for our dentist to do.
