If you’ve been searching for braces in Manchester, you may have a lot of questions about what to expect. Here’s some useful information about Invisalign treatments and why they’re so popular across the world.

Teeth Straightening Manchester – What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign are virtually invisible braces which can be used to resolve a number of issues. The treatment involves the use of clear aligners, which are plastic trays fitted over your teeth. Each patient has several different trays for each stage of the process, with each moving your teeth gradually into the desired position using gentle pressure.

Why Choose Invisalign Braces?
Invisalign treatments are popular across the world, creating more options for patients who want the best dental solutions.

Benefits include:

  • Virtually invisible braces – Thanks to the clear aligners, Invisalign braces are very discreet when compared to metal fixed braces.
  • Removable braces – Easily take them in and out yourself (just don’t forget to wear them!)
  • Comfortable – The texture of the aligners is smooth to touch, so they won’t catch your gums like many other fixed braces.
  • Effective, proven results – This is one of the most effective orthodontic treatments for multiple issues.
  • Smile design technology – Take a look at what your new smile will look like before we’ve even ordered your custom-made aligners.
  • Less appointments – While we do ask to see you every 6 to 8 weeks, this is less often than many traditional braces demand.

How Does Invisalign Smile Design Software Work?
Many patients want to know what to expect when coming in for a braces Invisalign treatment. Here are some of the steps involved to create the perfect aligners to straighten your teeth.

– Your teeth are scanned, removing the need to use messy impressions.
– We preview and adjust your future smile in a 3D computer model until you’re happy with the predicted results.
– Your scans are emailed to Invisalign HQ, where your trays will be produced and sent straight to our dental practice.
– You’ll then visit us again so that the first of your aligners can be fitted. In most cases, tooth coloured attachments are used to help the teeth start moving in the right direction.

What Does Invisalign Treat?
Wearing this type of aligners can help to correct a wide range of issues, from wonky smiles to problems with your bite.

  • GAPS: If you have gaps between your teeth, it could cause some of them to become loose if they gradually move towards the spaces. Aligners will bring your teeth together and close the gaps.
  • OVERLY CROWDED: Overcrowding can occur when the teeth don’t fit normally within the jaw space, so aligners can readdress this balance.
  • UNDERBITE: When at least one of your lower teeth protrudes over the upper set, this is called underbite, which could cause eating and chewing difficulties, headaches and tooth decay, so braces can help bring the teeth back into alignment.
  • OVERBITE: When at least one of your upper teeth protrudes over the lower set, this is called overbite, which could make it hard to chew and cause gum problems. Again, braces can help to correct this issue.
  • CROSSBITE: If one or more upper teeth bite into the inside of the lower set, it’s called crossbite, which could lead to several issues, such as tooth grinding, loss of enamel and headaches. Wearing aligners can help to straighten the teeth.
  • OPEN BITE: An open bite can prevent you from eating food and biting as you want to, as well as causing more wear and tear of the teeth. This is characterised by the upper and lower sets of teeth pointing outwards so that they don’t touch. Aligners can help to correct this.

If you’d like to book a consultation with our team, we’ll perform an in-depth examination of your teeth and bite, advising as to whether Invisalign clear braces could help.

Do the Braces Hurt When You Wear Them?
When you first start wearing your new Invisalign braces, you may feel some minor discomfort as you sense the pressure of the aligners, but it shouldn’t be painful. This will only last for a few days before your mouth adjusts. When you put your first set of aligners in, you may even find they affect your speech for up to 2 weeks, so speak, sing and laugh as much as you can to help you to get used to them.

What Care Do Invisalign Braces Require?
Your Invisalign trays should be changed once a week, but for them to work, it’s vital you follow all the advice and recommendations provided. This includes wearing your aligners for at least 22 hours a day. You should only remove your Invisalign braces when you eat food, drink or brush your teeth, ensuring you maintain your oral hygiene programme.

Aligners can be kept clean using toothpaste suds, gently brushing them around the trays. However, there are also specialist cleaning products available for Invisalign braces, including cleaning crystal and tablets to keep aligners hygienic and fresh.

How Long Do the Aligners Take to Work?
If you use your aligners correctly, you’ll usually see results within weeks, but the entire invisible braces treatment may take around 12 to 18 months to complete (less time in many cases). This will depend on how strict you are with wearing your aligners for the required length of time each day before moving onto the next set and the complexity of the correction.

Please attend your regular check-ups with your Invisalign specialist, usually taking place every six to eight weeks. They will check your teeth are moving as expected, and adjust your treatment plan if necessary. This may involve some tooth modifications to create more space for crooked smiles to straighten.

Once you’ve finished all your Invisalign aligners:

– There may be a refinement process, wearing additional aligners to make sure your smile is perfect.
– You could choose to have tooth whitening services or ask us about how worn and chipped teeth can be repaired.
– You’ll need to wear your retainers to help keep your smile straight.
